The band came in on their last studio day and were ready to start packing everything up to leave when Livgren walked in stating he had one more song that just came to him the night before. They laid it down in one day and brought it to the President of their Record Company (Don Kirshner), who could not believe what he was hearing. Kirshner had sunk almost a million dollars into this group with no real returns, and he knew, when he heard this, that all that was about to change!

I don't believe hip hop existed in the 70s. The original Walk This Way came out in the 70s, but this version came out in the 80s. I think 1986 or so. The idea came from Rick Ruben - who was one of the first producers doing rap - and was a genius in his own right.

What a lot of younger people don't realize was that, when this song was released in 1985, microwaves had just hit the mainstream market. They were VERY expensive (about a thousand dollars) and VERY heavy. Same for color tvs. There were no flat screen tvs; those suckers were big, thick and heavy. So, from a moving crew's perspective, playing the guitar on MTV AND making a lot of money AND having "chicks for free" was a life to be drooled over. Classic song. It never gets old.

This was the 70s. This was an interesting decade of music. Probably my favorite decade of music.

I think both men mastered the use of both sets of vocal cords. Their R&B performances kicked ass every week on Shindig. They are incomparable to this day. They turned simple songs like "You are My Sunshine" into an R&B masterpiece.
